The Inaugural Classical Association of Scotland Greek & Latin Summer School Monday 8th July to Sunday 14th July 2019 Please follow this link to the Application Form.
COURSES OFFERED Students are divided into three main categories: Beginners, Intermediate (up to National5/Higher level) and Advanced (those of Higher standard or beyond). All courses are intensive and aim to stretch students but, whatever your level or prior experience, there will be others like you.
Beginners: You will be learning from the Joint Association of Classical Teachers (JACT) Reading Greek or Cambridge Reading Latin course books, depending on your language choice. This will be an intensive course that will require you to consolidate your learning as much as possible, but will build your language skills from scratch. By the end of the week, you will be reading short texts in the original Greek or Latin!
Intermediates: You will begin the week with intensive use of the JACT course books to consolidate your previous learning and prepare you for reading original texts provided by the Summer School. By the end of the week, we expect that you will be reading more extensive passages of Greek or Latin with some confidence.
Advanced: You will work alongside specialists in either language and will cover a variety of texts, chosen by your tutors to reflect their areas of expertise (to be confirmed here at a later date). The aim of these courses is to improve linguistic fluency and confidence in handling texts in the original languages. These courses are open any qualified applicant, but will be of particular use to those aiming for university, already studying in higher education or interested in teaching at a school level.
